Infosys Bets on Hiring Freshers, Rules Out Layoffs Amid AI Shift
Infosys has reaffirmed its no-layoff stance, even as several rivals cut jobs amid rising automation. CEO Salil Parekh said the company has not carried out layoffs in the past year and does not expect any in the near future, while continuing with plans to hire around 20,000 fresh graduates.
While peers like Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant and Oracle have reduced workforce numbers, Infosys is positioning itself differently by investing in talent. Parekh argued that artificial intelligence is expanding the scope of work rather than eliminating jobs, though it is reshaping the nature of entry-level roles and increasing demand for specialised skills.
AI already contributes about 5.5% to Infosys’ revenue and is emerging as a key growth driver. The company is strengthening partnerships with firms like OpenAI and Anthropic, while also rolling out internal platforms to support AI-led development and training engineers to work effectively alongside new technologies.
