IndiGo Among Top 5 Fastest-Growing Airlines in 2025: OAG
IndiGo has been ranked among the world’s top five fastest-growing airlines in 2025, according to aviation analytics firm OAG. The airline recorded a 10% increase in capacity during the year despite facing operational disruptions in December 2025. OAG noted that IndiGo, alongside Wizz Air and LATAM Airlines Group, stood out across four major growth metrics — capacity, flight frequency, route expansion and Available Seat Kilometres (ASK).
However, the airline faced challenges late in 2025 after large-scale flight cancellations linked to crew rostering and pilot duty rule changes. The Ministry of Civil Aviation ordered the carrier to cut domestic operations by 10% until March 2026. Around 5,689 flights were cancelled, affecting nearly 900,000 passengers, and the airline was fined ₹22 crore by the aviation regulator for failing to properly implement revised flight duty norms.
The disruptions significantly impacted financial results for InterGlobe Aviation, IndiGo’s parent company, with net profit dropping 77.6% to ₹549.8 crore in the December 2025 quarter. Despite this, IndiGo continues to expand aggressively, with 907 aircraft on order—more than any airline in the global top 20—and strong international growth. While 86% of its capacity remains domestic, international markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Singapore are key drivers of its future expansion.
