Indian student Harjot Singh shot in Ukraine deported to Poland

Harjot Singh, an Indian student who was shot in Kiev, Ukraine, is deported to Poland. Harjot was flown to Poland by a specially equipped ambulance. He will be flown back to India by Air Force. Harjot was shot as he drove to a safe area on February 27 from Kiev, Ukraine, where the Russian occupation began. The student was being treated at a hospital in Kiev.

Earlier, Harjot had alleged that he had contacted the Indian embassy several times after the shooting but the embassy did not help. In a video message, Harjot requested that he be allowed to return home. Later, the External Affairs Ministry said that the cost of Harjot Singh’s treatment would be borne by the Central Government and repatriated. Embassy officials rushed to the hospital and arranged for facilities. Harjot will be accompanied by Union Minister VK Singh.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy today in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. It is noteworthy that Modi is talking to the President of Ukraine as he continues to try to evacuate Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine. The last time Prime Minister Zelenskyy spoke was on February 26, following Russia’s occupation of Ukraine.
