Indian Rocket PSLV-C62 Goes Off Track After Launch

An Indian rocket, PSLV-C62, carrying 16 payloads including the EOS-N1 earth observation satellite, lost control shortly after liftoff on Monday, marking a setback for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The launch took place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on Sriharikota Island at 10:18 a.m. local time, with payloads from startups and academic institutions in India and abroad.

ISRO reported that the rocket performed normally for most of its flight before experiencing an unexpected disturbance and deviation from its planned path during the end of the PS3 stage. Details about the anomaly and the final location of the rocket were not disclosed, and a detailed investigation has been initiated.

The PSLV series has been a cornerstone of India’s space program, with a strong track record of over 60 missions and more than 90% success rate. The vehicle has been central to launching major projects, including Chandrayaan-1 and the Aditya-L1 solar observatory, and plays a key role in opening India’s space sector to private industry.
