Indian Markets Rebound as Global Tensions Ease, Nifty Climbs 0.83%
Indian equity markets staged a modest recovery on Tuesday, tracking a fragile global relief rally after U.S. President Donald Trump postponed a planned strike on Iran’s power infrastructure, easing fears of a severe energy shock. The Nifty 50 rose 0.83% to 22,699.04, while the BSE Sensex gained 0.86% to 73,304.93 in early trade. Broader markets mirrored the optimism, with mid-cap and small-cap indices advancing around 0.8% each, and all major sectoral indices ending in positive territory.
The rebound came amid improved global cues, as Asian markets climbed 1.6% and Wall Street closed higher overnight. Brent crude hovered near $104 per barrel after the U.S. paused its aggressive stance following what it described as “productive conversations” with Tehran. However, uncertainty persists, with Iran denying any negotiations and the Strait of Hormuz remaining shut, keeping investor sentiment cautious. Analysts at Emkay Global noted that while risks linger, markets have turned cautiously optimistic in the near term.
Domestic benchmarks, which have declined nearly 9.5% this month due to rising oil prices and foreign fund outflows, saw selective buying across sectors. Financial heavyweight HDFC Bank rose 1.1% after appointing external law firms to review the resignation of its former chairman Atanu Chakraborty. Auto and EV-related stocks also gained traction, with Olectra Greentech and JBM Auto surging sharply, while Ashok Leyland advanced after the government announced plans to deploy 10,000 air-conditioned electric buses across 116 cities by 2027.
