India To Send Rescue Teams, Relief Material To Earthquake-Hit Turkey
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to provide Turkey with all possible aid, the government agreed on Monday to mobilise search and rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force, medical teams, and relief supplies to the country.
In a meeting held in the South Block to explore immediate relief measures, the decision was made, according to an official statement from PM Modi’s senior secretary PK Mishra. Two NDRF teams totaling 100 people are prepared to be airlifted to the earthquake-affected area for search and rescue operations. These teams include specially trained dog squads and the requisite equipment.
According to the statement, medical teams are also prepared with qualified doctors and paramedics as well as necessary medications.
The Turkish government, the Indian embassy in Ankara, and the Indian consulate general office in Istanbul would all work together to coordinate the delivery of relief supplies, it was said.
According to the statement, in addition to the NDMA and the NDRF, the cabinet secretary and representatives from the ministries of home affairs, defence, external affairs, civil aviation, health, and family welfare also attended the meeting.
