India Signs ₹858 Crore Defence Deals for Tunguska Missiles and P-8I Aircraft Support
India’s Defence Ministry has signed two contracts worth ₹858 crore to enhance the country’s air defence and maritime surveillance capabilities. The agreements, finalised in New Delhi, cover the procurement of Tunguska Air Defence Missile Systems for the Indian Army and maintenance support for the Navy’s P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft, reinforcing India’s defence preparedness.
The first contract, valued at ₹445 crore, was signed with Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport to acquire Tunguska missile systems aimed at strengthening India’s multi-layered air defence network against aerial threats such as drones, aircraft, and cruise missiles. The deal highlights the continued strategic defence partnership between India and Russia in supplying key military platforms.
The second contract, worth ₹413 crore, was signed with Boeing India Defense for depot-level inspection and maintenance of the Navy’s P-8I aircraft under the Buy Indian category with full indigenous content. The agreement will enable in-country maintenance, reduce aircraft downtime, and improve operational readiness, supporting Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India initiatives while boosting India’s maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
