Race against Time: Final Effort to Locate Titanic Submarine as Oxygen Supply Nears Depletion

With only a little of oxygen remaining for the five individuals on board, an international rescue operation comprising the US Coast Guard, Canadian military planes, French vessels, and remote-controlled robots is frantically scouring the area near the Titanic wreckage to locate the missing submersible.

The submersible disappeared en route to the Titanic site on Sunday, prompting round-the-clock efforts by rescue teams. While the submersible, named Titan, was equipped with up to 96 hours of emergency oxygen, the crew’s limited rations are a concern. Notably, British billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani tycoon Shahzada Dawood, and his son are among those aboard.

Encouragingly, a Canadian plane equipped with sonar technology detected sounds on Wednesday, leading to the deployment of remote-operated vehicles to investigate the source. While hopes remain high, experts have been unable to confirm the origin of the sounds. The urgency of the situation has captivated viewers worldwide, as maritime experts highlight the immense challenges involved in conducting rescue operations across vast stretches of the ocean.

In 2018, safety concerns were raised about the submersible, as OceanGate, its operator, chose not to seek certification from third-party organizations like the American Bureau of Shipping, a prominent submersible classifier.
