India Pushes SEBI for Global Coordination and Cyber Resilience
India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has urged the country’s market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India, to strengthen collaboration with global counterparts to enhance investor confidence in Indian markets. Speaking at a SEBI event in Mumbai, she emphasized that better alignment and understanding of regulatory frameworks internationally would attract more global capital.
Sitharaman also highlighted the growing importance of technology, particularly artificial intelligence, in tackling rising cyber risks in financial markets. She noted that adopting advanced tools would help regulators stay ahead of evolving threats and improve the resilience of India’s financial ecosystem.
Additionally, the minister called on SEBI to simplify know-your-customer (KYC) processes across various financial instruments. Streamlining these requirements, she said, would improve ease of doing business and make financial participation more efficient for investors.
