India Joins Pax Silica Alliance to Boost Semiconductor and AI Supply Chains
India has signed the declaration to join the US-led Pax Silica alliance at the India AI Impact Summit in Delhi, marking a major step toward strengthening global supply chains for critical minerals and artificial intelligence technologies. The alliance, spearheaded by the United States, includes partners such as Australia, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, and the UK, and aims to ensure secure access to resources, deepen technology cooperation, and create a resilient economic framework to drive AI-powered growth and manufacturing.
Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said joining the alliance would significantly accelerate India’s electronics and semiconductor ecosystem. He noted that multiple semiconductor plants are under development and that India’s first semiconductor facility will soon begin commercial production. Vaishnaw also highlighted that Indian engineers are already designing advanced two-nanometer chips, adding that Pax Silica would strengthen innovation, talent development, and India’s ambitions to become a global semiconductor leader.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor described India’s entry into the alliance as “strategic and essential,” citing the country’s strong engineering talent and growing capabilities in critical mineral processing. The move comes amid broader efforts to deepen bilateral trade and technology cooperation. Vaishnaw also criticised the opposition Indian National Congress, saying India is now firmly focused on advancing technological leadership and ensuring long-term economic growth through initiatives like Pax Silica.
