India, Israel Deepen Defence Ties, Explore Free Trade
During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel, both nations agreed to strengthen cooperation in defence through joint development, production, and technology transfer. They also discussed advancing a free trade agreement, aiming to bolster strategic and economic collaboration between the two countries.
The partnership will include cooperation in “horizon scanning” to enhance India’s strategic foresight, risk assessment, and technology planning using joint research, capacity building, and AI-driven tools. Additionally, Israel has agreed to allow 50,000 more Indian workers over the next five years, particularly in manufacturing sectors.
Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting peace in West Asia, emphasizing backing for the Gaza peace plan. His visit comes amid heightened US naval presence near Iran, highlighting the complex regional security environment while India seeks to maintain dialogue with all partners on stabilizing West Asia.
