India Cuts Prices of 137 Cancer Drugs by Up to 70%
India will reduce the prices of up to 137 cancer medicines by as much as 70% under expanded price controls aimed at making cancer treatment more affordable. The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers announced the move on October 17, with the revised prices set to take effect from November 9, 2026.
The price controls cover medicines used to treat more than 20 types of cancer, including breast, prostate, colon, ovarian and cervical cancer. The government will also cap trade margins on these medicines at 30% of their maximum retail price (MRP), helping limit markups across the supply chain.
The latest decision builds on measures introduced in 2019, when price controls on 42 anti-cancer medicines reduced prices by as much as 90%. The expanded regulations aim to improve access to essential cancer treatments and ease the financial burden on patients and their families.
