In Kerala’s Munnar, Temperature Drops Below 0, First Time This Winter

For the first time this winter, Munnar, in Kerala, saw a temperature below zero yesterday. It was also cooler in nearby locations like Chenduwara and Vattavada. Locals report that the temperature is quite low from morning to midnight.
Suresh, a local of Munnar, claimed that although zero degrees are typically reported in December, this time the weather was typical because of the rain.

“This is the first time that Munnar is experiencing such severe cold in this winter season,” he added.

Yesterday, minus one degrees were recorded in a number of locations in Munnar, including Kannimala, Chenduwara, Chituwara, Ellapetti, Lakshmi, Sevanmala, and Lockat. The morning crowds of tourists flocked to the frozen fields.

The bordering village of Vattavada in Tamil Nadu and Kerala also experienced extreme cold. The minimum temperature in Vattavada fell below zero on Wednesday morning.

In December, Munnar, a hill station in Kerala’s Idukki district, frequently experiences below-freezing temperatures. Many visitors come to Munnar to take advantage of the bitter cold.
