Hitachi India Plans to Hire 5,000 as It Bets on Infrastructure, Energy and AI
Hitachi India plans to expand its local workforce by more than 5,000 employees over the next five years as the Japanese conglomerate increases its focus on India’s fast-growing infrastructure, energy and digital sectors, a senior executive said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The hiring drive will support investments across energy, artificial intelligence, industrial automation and resources, with operations integrated into Hitachi’s global centres of excellence. The company currently employs about 42,000 people in India and is positioning the country as a key growth market for both manufacturing and digitally enabled services, driven by strong government-led infrastructure and energy projects.
The expansion comes amid global supply-chain disruptions and geopolitical uncertainty, prompting companies to rethink manufacturing strategies. While acknowledging the challenges of reducing reliance on China, Hitachi said India’s energy, rail, digital and AI sectors are well placed to benefit from the ongoing shift, with the company aiming to scale and export solutions developed locally to global markets.
