HAL Calls Dubai Tejas Crash an “Isolated Incident”
State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) said on Monday that last week’s crash of a Tejas fighter jet during the Dubai Airshow was an isolated event resulting from exceptional circumstances. The company did not disclose further details, while the Indian Air Force has already announced a court of inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.
The crash, which occurred during an aerial display and resulted in the pilot’s death, has raised concerns over India’s ambitions to export the indigenous fighter jet. Tejas, powered by General Electric engines and developed over four decades, is considered vital to modernising India’s largely Russian-origin air fleet. Defence analysts say the high-profile mishap could undermine New Delhi’s efforts to promote the jet internationally.
HAL, however, asserted that the incident will not affect its business operations, financial outlook, or scheduled deliveries. Shares of the company, which had fallen 3% earlier in the day, remained unchanged following the statement.
