GST Cuts and Rural Demand Drive Record Auto Sales in India
India’s automobile sector is set for continued growth over the next three months, buoyed by the benefits of GST 2.0 reforms, stable rural incomes, and sustained festive buying momentum, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Overall auto retail sales surged to an all-time high of 4.02 million units in October 2025, marking a strong 40.5% year-on-year rise.
Passenger vehicle sales crossed the five-lakh milestone for the first time, reaching 5.57 lakh units—up 11% YoY and the highest ever recorded in India. Two-wheeler retails also hit a lifetime high of 3.15 million units, improving 52% from October 2024, reflecting strong consumer sentiment and better stock availability.
FADA noted that GST rate cuts on small cars and seasonal rural demand—powered by weddings and harvest—combined with festive spillover bookings and new launches to propel sales to historic levels. During the 42-day festive window, retail volumes rose 21% YoY to 5.23 million units, and around 70% of dealers expect the growth trend to continue through the end of FY25.
