Ganesh Acharya charged with stalking, voyeurism, sexual harassment

Ganesh Acharya, a choreographer who was arrested in 2020 for alleged sexual harassment, has been charged by the Mumbai police.

After completing their investigation last month, the Oshiwara police filed a chargesheet in the Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court. Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354C (voyeurism), and 354D (stalking), as well as other sections relating to causing harm, insulting a woman’s modesty, and criminal intimidation, have been filed against Acharya. Sandeep Shinde, an assistant police inspector, confirmed that a chargesheet was filed on March 14.

In 2020, a choreographer who worked with Acharya filed a complaint alleging that he sexually harassed her after she declined his advances. In 2020, the woman claimed that the incident occurred while she was working as a junior dancer on a project with Acharya and had gone to his office to collect Rs 25,000 in unpaid dues. Acharya, on the other hand, allegedly refused to pay her and instead showed her pornographic material on his laptop. She also claimed that Acharya had hampered her work and that her membership in the Indian Cine and TV Choreographers Association had been revoked after he was appointed general secretary.

The allegations were denied by Acharya.
