Fractal Analytics Signals Strong R&D Push Ahead of Market Debut
Indian enterprise AI leader Fractal Analytics is set to maintain—and potentially increase—its robust research and development spending as it prepares for its long-awaited market debut. Although the listing date is yet to be confirmed, CEO Srikanth Velamakanni emphasized that sustained investment is crucial to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. The company allocated 1.44 billion rupees ($16.6 million) to R&D in 2025, averaging a 6% annual spend over the past three years, according to its red herring prospectus.
Fractal, headquartered in New York and Mumbai, generates over 65% of its revenue from major U.S. clients, including Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Tesla. Velamakanni dismissed concerns over dependence on Big Tech, revealing that nearly 10% of the company’s revenue comes from a single long-term client among the “Magnificent 7.” He added that Fractal is aggressively expanding its global footprint, tapping into growing demand as global giants like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon invest billions in India’s fast-growing data infrastructure.
Backed by more than $800 million in funding from investors such as Apax Partners and TPG Fett Holdings, Fractal is poised to become India’s first publicly listed AI-led company. The firm aims to raise 49 billion rupees ($554 million) through its IPO, which includes a fresh issue of 12.79 billion rupees and a 36.21 billion-rupee offer for sale by existing investors. Velamakanni hopes Fractal’s listing will pave the way for other Indian AI startups—including Sarvam and Krutrim—to gain easier access to capital amid surging investor interest in the sector.
