Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92

Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, passed away at the age of 92 on December 26, 2024, due to age-related medical conditions. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi announced that he experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home and was rushed to the hospital, where resuscitative efforts failed, and he was declared dead at 9:51 pm. Dr. Singh is survived by his wife, Gurcharan Kaur, and three daughters.
Known as the architect of India’s 1991 economic reforms, Dr. Singh served as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014 under the Congress-led UPA government. His contributions as Finance Minister during the Narasimha Rao era shaped India’s economic trajectory. Despite health issues in recent months, his legacy as a distinguished economist, policymaker, and leader continues to inspire.
Leaders across the political spectrum, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, paid heartfelt tributes. PM Modi lauded Dr. Singh’s wisdom, humility, and impactful tenure as a leader. Congress figures Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached AIIMS upon learning the news, while party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge are en route to Delhi to pay their respects.
