Earthquake Tremors felt in Delhi-NCR and Neighboring states

An earthquake of 6.3 on the Richter scale hit Tajikistan yesterday night at 10.31 pm (IST) , tremors of which were felt across north India in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, the Delhi-NCR region, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The earthquake struck Tajikistan on late Friday night.

As per the India Metrological Department (IMD), the epicenter of the earthquake was in Tajikistan and its coordinates were 38.00 N and 73.58 E. The area of the epicenter is a largely unpopulated mountain terrain.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter saying, “Earthquake tremors felt in Delhi. Praying for everyone’s safety.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also felt the tremors but was calm when the earthquake struck Tajikistan on late Friday night while he was virtually interacting with the students of the University of Chicago and continued on with the live programme.
