DGCA Approves Embraer E-Jets for Commercial Operations in India
India’s aviation sector received a boost as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted type certification to Embraer’s E-Jets family, including the E190, E195, and the fuel-efficient E195-E2. The approval allows these aircraft to operate commercially in India, confirming they meet the country’s safety and airworthiness standards under the Aircraft Rules, 1937.
The certification is expected to strengthen regional connectivity by enabling airlines to launch routes that are not viable for larger aircraft or turboprops. The E195-E2 is known for its low operating costs, fuel efficiency, quieter operations, and ability to fly longer distances while serving airports with short runways or challenging terrain. It also offers a passenger-friendly 2×2 seating layout with no middle seats.
Embraer has delivered more than 1,900 E-Jets globally, with over 80 airlines operating them across 50 countries. In India, Star Air already flies Embraer E175 aircraft, while Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace recently announced plans to establish a Final Assembly Line for the E175 under India’s Regional Transport Aircraft programme. Nearly 50 Embraer aircraft are currently operating across India’s commercial, defence, and business aviation sectors.
