Delhi Set to Get Its Own ‘Eye’ with 35-Metre Observation Wheel
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has revived plans to build the “Delhi Eye,” a 35-metre-high observation wheel inspired by iconic attractions like the London Eye and Ain Dubai. The project is proposed on a 3.84-acre site at the Mayur Vihar District Centre and will be developed by a private company under a 55-year licence agreement. Visitors are expected to enjoy panoramic views of the capital from the giant wheel.
Along with the observation wheel, the DDA is exploring additional recreational and commercial attractions to transform the site into a family-friendly destination. Since such developments are already permitted under Delhi’s existing master plan, officials said no change in land use is required, allowing the project to move forward more quickly once contracts are awarded.
The DDA has invited Expressions of Interest from private developers, with a stakeholder consultation scheduled for July 9 and proposal submissions due by July 28. The Delhi Eye project is part of the authority’s broader strategy to encourage long-term public-private partnerships for tourism and urban recreation, with similar plans also being considered for a new amusement park in Rohini.
