Congress MP Dies Of Heart Attack During Bharat Jodo Yatra

In Punjab this morning, Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary passed away from a heart attack. He was 76. The party’s Jalandhar MP, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, passed out during the march on foot at Phillaur, Punjab. He was transported in an ambulance to a hospital in Phagwara, where he subsequently passed away.

A party official claimed that Rahul Gandhi, who was leading the yatra, stopped the march in the middle and hurried to the hospital where the venerable Congressman had been brought. Later today, he’ll probably meet Mr. Chaudhary’s family at their Jalandhar house.

The yatra has currently been put on hold. The Congress’ massive foot march’s Punjab leg started on Wednesday from Fatehgarh Sahib.

The death of Mr. Chaudhary, according to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, is a “huge loss to the party and organisation.”

“Deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the untimely passing away of our MP, Shri Santokh Singh Chaudhary. His loss is a great blow to the party and organisation. In this hour of grief, my heart goes out to his family, friends and followers. May his soul rest in peace,” he tweeted.

Both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections were won by Mr. Chaudhary. Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, his son, represents Punjab’s Phillaur Assembly Constituency as a Congress MLA.
