Congress fears ‘Money Power’ of BJP
The affection of the business community means the availability of the funds necessary to run the election campaigns in the most colourful manner.
It seems that the Congress fears the ‘Money Power’ of the BJP. It is a fact that in terms of ‘money power’ the Grand Old Party is far less powerful than the Saffron Party. The ruling party has already entered the good book of the Indian business community, especially those in the top. In this stage, it is illogical to assume that the community will rally behind the opposition against the ruling. Definitely, their first choice will be the ruling. The affection of the business community means the availability of the funds necessary to run the election campaigns in the most colourful manner.
A Congress leader has openly come out lately with the allegation that the BJP has used their money power in the election campaigns.
It is not that the Grand Old Party has never ever relied on the business community for their funds and never ever enjoyed the advantage of the ‘money power’.
Till the emergence of the BJP towards the central stage of the Indian politics, the same community had been supporting the, then, powerful national party Congress. Until then, they had been the biggest beneficiary of the community’s funds.
There are many research works available that describes how the business community has influenced the Indian elections.
In the wake of this, it is important to note here an impressive proposal found in the CPI (M) manifesto. The CPI (M), in its manifesto, promises that if they come to power they would scrap electoral bonds and discourage the corporate funding to political parties.
