Comedian Raju Srivastava, 58, Dies Weeks After Cardiac Arrest In Gym

Raju Srivastava, a comedian, passed away today in Delhi, more than a month after having a heart arrest while exercising in the gym. He was 58. At 10.20 am, according to hospital sources cited by news agency PTI, Raju Srivastava was pronounced dead.

“About 30 minutes earlier, the family called to inform me that he had passed away. The news is terribly awful. Over 40 days of his hospital stay were spent in battle “Dipoo Srivastava, his brother, informed the agency. Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, expressed his sorrow over the comedian’s passing and offered his condolences.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of renowned comedian Raju Srivastava. Apart from being an accomplished artist, he was also a very lively person. He was also very active in the social spheres. I extend my condolences to his bereaved family and fans. Shanti,” he tweeted in Hindi.

On August 10, after collapsing in the gym, Srivastava was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment (AIIMS). He was put on a ventilator and had angioplasty the following day.

Despite being involved in the entertainment sector since the 1980s, Srivastava didn’t gain attention until he took part in the stand-up comedy competition “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge” in 2005.

In Hindi movies like “Maine Pyar Kiya,” “Baazigar,” “Bombay to Goa,” and “Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya,” he has made appearances. He participated in the third season of “Bigg Boss.”

Up until his passing, Srivastava also presided over the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council.
