Cisco Inaugurates $1.3 Billion Chennai Manufacturing Facility, Boosting Exports and Employment
Global technology leader Cisco has launched a new manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, with an ambitious target to generate $1.3 billion (₹10,883 crore) in revenue through exports. The facility, inaugurated by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday, is expected to create 1,200 jobs in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant step in Cisco’s multi-year investment in India.
The plant, established in collaboration with contract manufacturer Flex, will primarily focus on producing Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series routers. According to Cisco, the state-of-the-art unit will manufacture a range of routing and switching products designed to meet the growing technology needs of businesses in India and across the globe, boosting India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and its global technology footprint.
Chuck Robbins, Chair and CEO of Cisco, along with other executives and local government officials, attended the inauguration. The facility is expected to drive innovation and contribute to India’s manufacturing sector, with Cisco planning significant advancements in technical capabilities in the future.
