Canada–India Trade Talks Target Year-End Deal
Canada is optimistic about concluding negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India by the end of 2026, Canadian Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu said. The two countries had earlier set a year-end target for reaching a free trade agreement.
Indian trade negotiators are expected to visit Canada next month, while the countries’ leaders may meet on the sidelines of the G20 gathering in December. Energy is a key area of discussion, with both sides exploring opportunities in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and nuclear energy.
Canada is also engaging with major Indian companies, including Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra and JSW Group, over potential investments in Canadian critical-mineral projects. Sidhu said such investments could help strengthen supply chains as businesses seek more secure access to key resources.
