Boat accident claims eight lives in Andhra Pradesh

A severe boat accident has claimed eight lives in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The accident has happened in the Godavari near the Andhra village of Katchuluru. As many as 37 persons have been reported missing because of the accident. It is the timely interference of locals that has reduced the causality rate. As per an unverified official report, there were more than 70 persons on the boat including the staffs of the boat. More than 27 persons have been rescued. A considerable number of those have been rescued by the locals.

As per a preliminary report, the boat was operating without proper license. The government has suspended all boat service operations in the region.

Notably, the government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of those killed in the accident.

It has also ordered those involved in the rescue operation to complete the task in war footing.

At this moment, the main reason for the accident remains mysterious. An investigation in the issue is on. As per a media report, the boat carrying passengers was moving against the flow. For the last few days, the flow has been consistently increasing due to the increased inflow of flood water into the river.
