Basavaraj Bommai sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka

Basavaraj bommai was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Senior BJP leaders including BS Yeddyurappa and Dharmendra Pradhan attended the swearing-in ceremony. Discussions are on to give Yeddyurappa’s son Vijayendra the post of Deputy Chief Minister. “The central leadership will take the final decision on the cabinet reshuffle and Yeddyurappa has the blessings,” Bommai told.

This is a generational change for the Karnataka BJP. The 78-year-old Yeddyurappa will be replaced by a 61-year-old new chief minister. Yeddyurappa reckons the rule is safe in the hands of the next loyalist. Basavaraj Bommai is the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka. BS Yeddyurappa and BJP central observers were present at the function at the Raj Bhavan.

Bommai told that he was confident that the new mission would be handled well, that he had a big responsibility and that he had the favor of Yeddyurappa. With the appointment of Lingayat as the Chief Minister, the BJP has decided to ensure community balance by giving the post of Deputy Chief Minister to other community leaders.

Talks are on for four deputy chief ministers. Revenue Minister R Ashok from the Vokaliga faction and B Sreeramulu from the backward class are being considered for the Deputy Chief Minister’s post. There are indications that BJP MLAs have strongly opposed giving the post of Deputy Chief Minister to Yeddyurappa’s son Vijayendra.
