Assam Chief Minister Appoints Medallist Nayanmoni Saikia As Senior Police Official

As part of his government’s decision to award Class-I government jobs to the winners of the Olympic, Commonwealth, and Asian Games, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented gold medalist Nayanmoni Saikia with her appointment letter as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and a check for 50 lakh on Saturday.
The decision was made by the Assam government in a cabinet meeting in 2021, along with a decision to offer Class-II government jobs to medal winners from the Recognized World Championship and Class-III government jobs to medal winners from the national games.

Nayanmoni Saikia, who defeated South Africa in the women’s fours Lawn Bowls final to win gold, spoke to ANI after receiving the letter from the Chief Minister. She praised the Assam government’s commitment to sports and pledged to keep improving.

“I am feeling happy. Assam government has made a good sports policy. I hope the new generation will be attracted towards sports. We will try to keep playing well,” she said.

The Chief Minister tweeted in the meantime, “I’m happy to take part in the Sports Pension Day celebration conducted to recognise Arjuna Bhogeswar Baruah’s accomplishments. Four well-known athletes received one-time grants totaling Rs. 50,000, and four others received regular sports pensions of Rs. 10,000 each month.”

At the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, on August 2, the Indian Lawn Bowls team won its first-ever medal in the sport by defeating South Africa in the women’s fours final and taking home gold.

India and their opponents, one of the finest teams in the sport with 44 medals, traded blows in the action. Rupa Rani Tirkey, Nayanmoni Saikia, Lovely Choubey, and Pinki Singh all played for India in this historic match. India defeated the other team 17-10.
