As Nayanthara-Vignesh Shivan announce birth of twin sons, TN govt to seek explanation about surrogacy
Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, a star couple in the Tamil film industry, revealed on Sunday that they had welcomed twin sons into the world. Amid the good wishes flowing in, the couple’s announcement is snowballing into a controversy. The babies were reportedly created through surrogacy, according to reports, despite the couple’s lack of an official declaration. The couple’s adherence to the processes outlined by the Indian surrogacy regulations is under scrutiny. Four months ago, Nayanthara and Vignesh got married.
During a press conference on Monday, the questions were posed to Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian who has said that an inquiry will be conducted. “The surrogacy itself is subjected to a lot of debates. But, the law allows individuals to involve in surrogacy if they are above 21 years and below 36 years of age, with the approval of the family,” said the minister.
Additionally, he declared that he would ask the Directorate of Medical Services to look into the situation. Although commercial surrogacy is outlawed in India, the surrogate must have at least one marriage and a child of her own. The main goal of the most recent surrogacy regulatory bill, which will go into effect on January 25, 2022, is to outlaw commercial surrogacy and allow only altruistic surrogacy, in which the intended parents will only be responsible for the surrogate’s medical costs and insurance coverage.
On Sunday, Vignesh shared the pictures showing Nayanthara and him fondly kissing the feet of the newborns, introducing them to the world as their sons. “Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa. We are blessed with Twin Baby Boys. All Our prayers, our ancestors’ blessings combined with all the good manifestations made, have come 2gethr in the form Of 2 blessed babies for us. Need all ur blessings for our Uyir & Ulagam. Life looks brighter & more beautiful (sic),” Vignesh wrote on his social media handles.
