Amicus Curie’s report on flood exposes why Kerala could not flight the disastrous natural disaster properly

What these point to is that it was the mismanagement that aggravated the impact of the dangerous flood, which took lives and livelihood of many.

No more reason is needed to generate a feeling against those, responsible for the proper functioning of dames in the state of Kerala, than the report filed in the top court of the state by the amicus curie who was appointed by the same court to do an investigation into the disastrous flood that engulfed the state last year.

As per the amicus curie’s report, the sudden release of various dams across the state simultaneously and the high reservoir storage are what that aggravated the damages caused during the flood.

What these point to is that it was the mismanagement that aggravated the impact of the dangerous flood, which took lives and livelihood of many.

The court’s appointee, during his investigation, has also observed that the authorities failed in several fronts from the announcement of the red alert to the initiation of the evacuation procedure.

His opinion is that it is to be inquired ‘to what extent the flood could have been contained and the damages could have been mitigated, had proper flood caution or flood control zone been maintained’.

The amicus curie has suggested the constitution of an inquiry committee by the court to investigate the actual causes of the flood.
