Amazon Trials AI-Powered Humanoid Robots for Future Deliveries
Amazon is reportedly developing artificial intelligence (AI) software to power humanoid robots capable of replacing human delivery workers, according to The Information. The tech giant is said to be testing these robots using third-party hardware at a facility in San Francisco, dubbed a “humanoid park”, where they are trained to navigate complex indoor obstacle environments. Although Amazon has not confirmed the report, the move aligns with its broader push toward automation.
The initiative aims to create a robotic workforce that could handle intricate delivery routes traditionally managed by human drivers and gig workers. This comes as Amazon recently announced a series of AI-driven upgrades across its supply chain—from warehouses to doorsteps—designed to speed up deliveries and reduce physical strain on human workers.
Amazon’s growing automation network already features advanced robots like Digit, Sparrow, Proteus, and robotic arms Robin and Cardinal, which assist in lifting, sorting, and transporting items. While these technologies enhance efficiency and safety, critics warn of long-term job displacement. Though full replacement of human roles remains speculative, the company’s increased focus on automation signals a transformative shift in how logistics may function in the future.
