Akasa Air in Talks for 200+ Boeing 737 MAX Jets
India’s Akasa Air is in talks with Boeing to order more than 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter. A decision on the potential order is expected early next year, with final terms likely to be concluded in the second half of 2027.
The proposed purchase would support Akasa Air’s fleet expansion beyond 2032. The Mumbai-based budget carrier, which began operations in 2022, currently operates 43 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has orders for another 226 planes to be delivered over the next decade.
Akasa is also targeting a 30% increase in capacity by March 2027 as it continues to expand its operations. The airline is additionally considering participation in the government’s emergency credit guarantee scheme, according to its finance chief, who spoke in June.
