Ajay Maken resigns as Delhi Congress President
Senior congress leader Ajay Maken has resigned as the Delhi Congress President, citing heath related difficulties. There are rumours that he would be inducted into the All Indian Congress Committee soon.
The seat vacated by Mr Maken is expected to be filled by former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The decision for the resignation has come days after the grand old party hinted that it would join hands with the AAP in Delhi to eliminate the threat posed by their common rival BJP.
Some suspect that there is some connection between the resignation and the decision of the old party to join hand with the part led by the prime rival of Mr Maken Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
It is said that Mr Maken is unhappy with the Congress central leadership’s decision to forget its differences with the AAP.
Mr Maken, during his tenure as the Delhi Congress President, several times has come strongly against the AAP and its leadership, especially Mr Kejriwal.
At this moment, it remains unclear whether Ms Sheila would accept the offer or not.
Anyway, the unexpected exit of Mr Maken from the top position of Delhi Congress is likely to affect the party in the state more than anything else.
