Airtel to Infuse ₹20,000 Crore into NBFC Arm

Bharti Airtel has announced a major capitalisation plan for its non-banking financial subsidiary, Airtel Money Limited, committing an infusion of ₹20,000 crore over the next few years. The telecom major will contribute 70% of the proposed capital, while the remaining 30% will be brought in by the promoter group through Bharti Enterprises. The move signals Airtel’s intent to significantly scale up its digital lending and financial services business in India.

The company said it has built a high-performance credit engine over the past two years, powered by strong digital assets, advanced analytics capabilities, and a team of over 500 data scientists. Its lending service provider (LSP) platform has already disbursed more than ₹9,000 crore, supported by robust underwriting models, disciplined portfolio management, and real-time risk monitoring systems. Airtel highlighted that the platform has delivered strong delinquency outcomes while achieving rapid scale.

Executive Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal stated that the success of the LSP platform demonstrates Airtel’s ability to combine technology, data, and customer trust to deliver financial services at scale. The NBFC expansion aims to deepen financial inclusion and build a future-ready digital lending business anchored in innovation and reliability. Meanwhile, Airtel shares closed 0.98% higher at ₹1,997.15, taking the company’s market capitalisation to ₹11.38 lakh crore.
