Air India Crash Probe Nears Final Stage
India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has entered the final phase of its investigation into the Air India Boeing 787 crash that claimed 260 lives shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. Investigators have completed the cockpit voice recorder transcript, conducted a psychological autopsy as part of the inquiry, and interviewed pilots, crew members, technical staff, air traffic controllers, weather officials, and human-factors experts.
The AAIB said the investigation is currently focused on analysing operational, technical, human, and organisational factors. Data from the aircraft’s engine monitoring system is still being reviewed, while some organisational assessments remain underway. The agency also noted that media speculation surrounding the crash has made some witnesses reluctant to cooperate fully during the investigation.
According to the court filing, the remaining investigative work is expected to be completed within the next six weeks, with a draft final report likely to be prepared by October. The report will be shared with participating countries, including the United States, for review before the findings are finalised and released to the public.
