Agneepath Scheme: What is Agneepath and why protest?

What is Agneepath?

Only those between the ages of 17 and 21 can join the army through this scheme. Appointment for four years. 25 per cent of those who prove their ability will be stabilized. They can continue in service for 15 years. Selection is through recruitment rallies for health and fitness tests. Except for the 25 per cent who get permanent appointment, the rest will not get pension.

The salary is Rs 30,000 at the beginning and Rs 40,000 at the end of the service. 30% of salary will be transferred to Sevanidhi program. At the end of the service period, he will get Rs. 11 lakhs plus the amount set aside for four years. There will be benefits including health insurance.

Those who have passed 10th and Plus Two can participate in the rally. 12th class winners will get graduation certificate on completion of service..Girls will also be recruited as soldiers.Family will get compensation of Rs 1 crore if they die while serving..Currently the average age in the army is 32 years. With the implementation of the Agneepath project, it will be reduced to 26 in six to seven years.

Why protest?

Army recruitment for the past two years is halfway done because of Covid. More than six lakh people in the country are waiting for the written test after completing their physical and medical examinations. With the cancellation of this written exam, many people will miss the opportunity. Many can reach the age limit stated in Agniveer. There are no benefits like pension in the new scheme. Appointments are made on a temporary basis after passing rigorous examinations. Another criticism is that recruiting younger people affects quality.
