Aditi Gupta – The Woman Who’s Breaking Menstrual Taboos in India

Aditi Gupta is a woman on a mission to break the taboo surrounding menstruation in India. She’s the co-founder of Menstrupedia, a social venture that’s creating awareness about menstrual health and hygiene in India and around the world.

Aditi’s journey began when she moved from Jharkhand to Ahmedabad to pursue her degree in design. While she was in college, she learned about the difficulties that girls in rural areas faced when it came to menstrual health and hygiene. Many girls lacked access to basic information about menstruation, and they often had to resort to using old rags or newspapers during their periods.

This realization led Aditi to start Menstrupedia along with her husband Tuhin Paul in 2012. Menstrupedia is an online platform that provides information, resources, and tools for young girls and women to learn about menstruation, menstrual health, and menstrual hygiene. Menstrupedia has also published a comic book called “Menstrupedia Comic” to help educate young girls and women about menstruation in a fun and engaging way.

Aditi’s work with Menstrupedia has been widely recognized, and she’s received several awards for her contributions to menstrual health and hygiene awareness. In 2014, Aditi was named among the BBC’s 100 Women list, which recognizes inspiring and influential women from around the world. She was also awarded the Women in the World Emerging Leaders Award in 2015.

Aditi’s journey hasn’t been easy, though. Breaking the menstrual taboo in India has been an uphill battle, and she’s faced resistance from conservative sections of society. But Aditi is determined to continue her work and create a world where menstruation is no longer a taboo.

Today, Menstrupedia has reached millions of people in India and around the world. Aditi’s work has not only created awareness about menstrual health and hygiene but has also empowered girls and women to take charge of their bodies and lives. Her work has had a profound impact on the lives of many, and she’s truly a woman to be celebrated.

In conclusion, Aditi Gupta’s story is one of determination, passion, and hope. She’s breaking menstrual taboos and creating a world where girls and women can live with dignity and respect. Her work with Menstrupedia is a shining example of what can be achieved when we work towards a common goal, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of changemakers.
