Jakson Solar Plans $525 Million Investment in Manufacturing

India’s Jakson Solar plans to invest up to ₹50 billion ($525.2 million) to establish solar cell and ingot-wafer manufacturing facilities, strengthening the country’s domestic renewable energy supply chain. Managing Director Ivan Saha announced the plans at the Renewable Energy India Expo, stating that the company aims to establish 3 gigawatts (GW) of solar cell manufacturing capacity by December 2027.

The company also plans to develop 3 GW of solar ingot and wafer manufacturing capacity by the third quarter of fiscal year 2028. The facilities will primarily serve the merchant market, while Jakson Solar already operates a 1.2 GW solar module manufacturing plant. According to Saha, equipment procurement partnerships have been secured, and expanding domestic manufacturing is essential to prevent potential supply disruptions.

The investment comes as India strengthens local manufacturing requirements to reduce dependence on imported solar components, particularly from China. The government has mandated the use of domestically manufactured solar modules and cells and plans to extend local-content requirements to solar ingots and wafers from June 1, 2028. These measures support India’s broader renewable energy ambitions and its target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
