Govt Rejects Musk’s Starlink Blocking Claim
The Indian government has rejected Elon Musk’s claim that Starlink is being blocked by certain “oligarchs” in India, saying satellite communication rules are applied equally to all operators. The Ministry of Communications called allegations of an unfair or discriminatory regulatory framework “baseless and misconceived.”
The government said licences have been granted to three satellite communication providers using non-geostationary satellite constellations. All three are currently undergoing security assessments, and operators can seek spectrum assignment only after completing the required security process.
New Delhi said all three companies are broadly at the same stage of the regulatory process, stressing that security compliance—not preferential treatment or competitive interests—will determine the pace of approvals. Musk had earlier argued that delays were preventing Starlink from expanding connectivity in remote and underserved parts of India.
