Azaduddin Owaisi wants BJP leader Nupur Sharma arrested for making anti-Nabi remarks. The central government is to blame for the current conflict. The OIC also demanded that the government take action to end the attacks.
Meanwhile, protests against BJP leaders’ anti-Nabi statements continued to erupt in the country. Protests over the reference to the Prophet Muhammad are still violent in many places. In Howrah, protesters set fire to shops and a BJP office. Police in riot gear stormed a rally in Howrah on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. A curfew has been declared in West Bengal till next Wednesday in view of possible clashes. West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar has been taken into police custody for visiting the conflict zone in Howrah. Following this, there was a tussle between the BJP workers and the police. Governor Jagadeep Dhankar blamed police inaction for the clashes. The governor also demanded that stern action be taken against the perpetrators. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has blamed the BJP for the attack.
Two people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting in Ranchi during a protest yesterday. Protesters reportedly opened fire on police. Four policemen and a protester were shot dead and taken to hospital. The government has ordered an investigation into the shooting.
