India Among Seven Bidding for 2036 Olympics
India is among seven countries seeking to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Germany, Qatar, Hungary, South Korea, South Africa and Turkey are the other interested nations currently in preliminary discussions with the IOC.
The IOC plans to create a shortlist in March 2027, with selected candidates moving into a strategic dialogue phase. Preferred hosts are expected to be identified in 2028, while the final decision on the 2036 host is expected in mid-2029. Other countries can express interest until October 31, although new bids are considered unlikely.
India is seeking to host the Olympics for the first time, while South Africa is aiming to become the first African host. Turkey’s Istanbul is making another attempt after five previous bids, while Qatar is seeking to become the first Muslim-majority country to host the Games. Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympics, followed by Brisbane in 2032.
