India Needs End-to-End Manufacturing: Chandrasekaran
India must move beyond assembly-led manufacturing and develop end-to-end domestic capabilities across products, equipment, technology and intellectual property, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said. Speaking at an Indian Foundation for Quality Management symposium, he said strong domestic demand, services exports and supportive policies continue to support India’s economic growth.
Chandrasekaran highlighted double-digit growth in areas including auto sales, credit, power and cement demand. He said energy security, manufacturing jobs and human capital will be crucial for sustaining growth, while greater investment in education, technical training, skills and R&D will help India build a stronger industrial base.
He also stressed the importance of quality, infrastructure and innovation in improving India’s global competitiveness. Citing examples from Japan and Germany, he said India should strengthen sectors such as automobiles, aerospace, semiconductors and batteries while building world-class infrastructure, intellectual property and a strong SME ecosystem.
