IndiGo Hikes Fuel Charges as Jet Fuel Prices Rise
IndiGo will increase fuel charges on domestic and international flights from October 6 as global aviation turbine fuel prices continue to climb. The airline last raised its fuel charges in April.
Domestic fuel charges will rise to ₹375–₹1,300 from ₹275–₹950, while international charges will increase to ₹1,000–₹10,000, depending on the distance travelled. IndiGo said global fuel prices rose 14% month-on-month in October amid volatility linked to the Iran war.
Jet fuel accounts for up to 40% of airline operating costs, putting pressure on profitability when prices rise sharply. IndiGo reported a first-quarter loss of ₹3.82 billion and has said it may consider fuel hedging to help protect its margins.
