Amazon Plans $3 Billion Investment in India’s Quick-Commerce Business
Amazon plans to invest $3 billion in India’s quick-commerce business by 2030, according to two people familiar with the plans. The company is expected to spend $1 billion by the end of 2027 and another $2 billion by 2030 as it seeks to expand its Amazon Now service and compete in India’s rapidly growing instant-delivery market.
A major part of the investment will go toward opening more small neighbourhood warehouses, improving inventory management, using AI for demand forecasting and expanding product selection. Amazon is expected to focus primarily on frequently purchased daily essentials rather than one-off products such as smartphones. Its quick-commerce business has already crossed $1 billion in annualised gross sales, according to the company.
Amazon remains behind established players such as Blinkit, Swiggy and Zepto, which together account for a large share of India’s quick-commerce market. Analysts say catching up could be challenging because rivals have built extensive store networks and loyal customer bases. Amazon, however, sees its large existing customer base as an opportunity to drive adoption of faster deliveries through its main app.
