India Caps Sugar Stock Holding at 30 Days
The Indian government has directed that sugar dealers cannot hold sugar stocks for more than 30 days, according to a notification issued on Tuesday. The move is aimed at improving transparency and ensuring smooth availability of sugar in the market.
Under the new rule, all sugar dealers will be required to declare their stock positions and update them regularly starting August 1. The mandatory reporting is expected to help authorities monitor inventory levels more effectively.
The decision comes as part of the government’s efforts to regulate sugar supplies and prevent excessive stockpiling, helping maintain stable market conditions and ensuring timely availability of the commodity.
