Hitachi Energy India Targets Bigger Share of Booming Data Centre Market
Hitachi Energy India has significantly expanded its ambitions in the country’s rapidly growing data centre sector, aiming to capture up to 30% of the industry’s overall spending through its comprehensive “grid-to-rack” power solutions. Managing Director and CEO Venu Nuguri told Reuters that the company’s earlier target of addressing 10–15% of data centre investments has now increased as it broadens its offerings from grid connectivity to server rack-level power distribution.
India’s data centre market, valued at $5.55 billion in 2025, is projected to reach $13.11 billion by 2034, fueled by digital transformation, cloud adoption, and rising artificial intelligence workloads. Hitachi Energy India, a subsidiary of Zurich-based Hitachi Energy, supplies power infrastructure and grid technologies across industries and commands nearly half of India’s high-voltage direct current (HVDC) market. According to Nuguri, the company’s integrated power infrastructure solutions could add another 10–15% of data centre spending to its addressable market.
The company recently announced a ₹20 billion investment in a new transformer manufacturing facility in Gujarat, taking its total capital expenditure to ₹40 billion across 19 factories at eight locations. Hitachi Energy India ended fiscal 2026 with a record order backlog of ₹296 billion and is actively exploring acquisitions in data centres, digital technologies, and power consulting to strengthen its capabilities. With India’s peak power demand reaching a record 270.8 GW in May and expected to rise to 458 GW by 2032, the company sees the country’s growing energy requirements as a major long-term growth opportunity.
