Government Raises LPG Booking Gap to 25 Days to Prevent Hoarding
The Government of India has increased the minimum waiting period for booking domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders from 21 days to 25 days to curb hoarding and black marketing. Officials said the decision was taken after authorities noticed unusual booking patterns, with some households placing orders within just 15 days instead of the usual 55-day cycle.
The revised rule aims to ensure fair distribution and prevent artificial shortages in the market. At the same time, refineries across India have been directed to increase LPG production, while authorities prioritise domestic connections over commercial supply to ensure households continue receiving cooking gas without disruption.
To stabilise supply, the government is also exploring additional import options. Countries including Algeria, Australia, Canada, and Norway have approached India with proposals to supply LPG. Officials added that fuel supplies remain stable, and retail petrol and diesel prices are unlikely to rise unless global crude oil prices surge significantly.
