An under-construction Metro pillar fell on a woman’s two-wheeler, killing her and her two-and-a-half-year-old boy while injuring her husband and daughter in Bengaluru, Karnataka, today.
This morning, the Nagavara neighbourhood of Bengaluru reported the occurrence.
According to officials, the couple and their son and daughter twins were riding their bikes through the area when the iron pillar struck them. The catastrophe left Tejasvani and her son Vihan with serious injuries. Bystanders transported them to a local hospital, where they passed away while receiving care.
Lohith, Tejasvani’s husband, and their daughter are receiving medical care at the facility.
According to the police, Tejasvini was riding as the passenger and Lohith was the bike’s driver. Both of them were wearing helmets, the police added. The metal rod-built pillar was roughly 40 feet long.”A Metro pillar collapsed and hit a bike on which four people were travelling. Tejasvini and her son Vihan were seriously injured and immediately shifted to the Altius hospital. Unfortunately, they died there,” said Dr Bheemashankar S Guled, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru East.
For the past two days, the work has been put on hold along the outer ring road. According to him, an investigation is ongoing after a case was reported.
A 20 lakh rupee cash aid for the family has been announced by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
Anjum Parvez, the managing director of BMRCL, announced that an internal audit will also be conducted.
According to an eyewitness, onlookers rushed the family of four to the hospital. “We asked the municipal organisation to assist us in removing the debris and the barricades, but nobody came to our aid. With the assistance of locals, we later transported them to the hospital “he said.
Locals and commuters in the area also staged a protest against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) – the city’s civic body.
